The winding path, the search for truth

2010

Andrew Rogers has completed major land art projects in all continents of the world. These large-scale works in stone, known as geoglyphs, were designed to be seen from above. The winding path, the search for truth, 2010, is, in contrast, a work to be experienced on foot. Following the archetypal model of a labyrinth, it is a single continuous path winding through seven circuits towards a centre (it is in this respect distinct from a maze, which presents numerous choices and potential dead ends.) The symbol of the labyrinth has been used across cultures for centuries, and represents journey, pilgrimage and an invitation to spiritual contemplation.

Rogers constructed a larger version of this work, measuring sixty metres in diameter, in Nepal in 2008.
