Become a tour guide

Help us share the love of art with nature at McClelland by becoming a volunteer guide.

We seek individuals with a strong interest in the visual arts, who are confident in their communication skills and ability to effectively interact with others.

Duties include:

  • Conducting tours for the general public including adults, school groups and special event groups within the gallery and/or sculpture park
  • Participating in training and committing to regular research on upcoming exhibitions, including attendance of exhibition related public programs
  • Promoting public interest in the gallery and its exhibitions and programs
  • Participating in rostered tour guiding as organised by the senior tour guide, and assisting the Education Coordinator as required for school tours

Tours are informative and friendly, providing information and analysis of artworks.

Education program assistants

Education program volunteers assist with McClelland’s education workshops, programs and tours.

Applicants will ideally have experience working with children in an educational capacity, preferably have teaching qualifications or be teachers in training. A commitment of one half-day per fortnight (Tuesday to Friday – some Mondays) is required.

Applicants should refer to the key selection criteria specified within the McClelland Education Volunteer Position Description.

Invigilating volunteers

Invigilating volunteers are the face of McClelland, meeting and greeting visitors and providing information on current exhibitions, in both the gallery and sculpture park.

They receive and direct incoming enquiries and assist with the promotion of an exciting range of programs and opening events to visitors, while ensuring the security of the gallery spaces.

Gardening volunteers

Gardening volunteers assist our Park and Facilities Manager in maintaining the beauty and the safety standards of McClelland’s park and bushland. Experience in gardening or horticulture is desired but not compulsory.

All volunteers are required to have a working-with-children check.
