Patricia Piccinini

Patricia Piccinini was born in Freetown, Sierra Leone, and arrived in Australia in 1972. A leading proponent of Australian hyper-realist sculpture, she also works with installation, photography and the moving image. After studying painting at the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne, she became concerned with issues such as the link between bioengineering, human reproduction, and sociality. Piccinini employs a wide range of materials and methods and often works with specialist collaborators from various fields of industrial manufacture. Her uncanny biomorphic sculptures offer minutely detailed visions of imaginary creatures brought into the world through genetic engineering.

McClelland acknowledges the Bunurong / Boon Wurrung people of the South-Eastern Kulin Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the lands and waters on which we are placed.
