Yvonne Kendall
Born in Birmingham, England, in 1965, Yvonne Kendall emigrated to Australia with her parents when she was nine years old. She completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture at the Victorian College, Prahan, in 1987. Her work is highly autobiographical with themes drawn from her immediate personal domestic environment. Kendall transforms found objects – toys and other domestic items – by embedding or wrapping them in various mediums such as foam and wax. She exploits the rich colours and textures of various found materials such as curtain brocades, tassels and twine using them to contain and retain the original forms and shapes of the objects she covers.
Kendall has exhibited widely throughout Australia and Germany. Her work is held in public collections including the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne; Artbank, Sydney; Bendigo Art Gallery, Victoria; Heide Museum of Modern Art, Bulleen, Victoria; Deakin University Art Gallery, Burwood, Victoria; and Art Museum Spendhaus, Reutlingen, Germany. She has lived and worked in Germany since 2000.
