Landing object III

1971

Teisutis Zikaras Landing object III was fabricated in bronze from a resin sculpture also in McClelland's collection. The principal component of Landing object III is the central cylindrical form from which a number of enigmatic wing and fin-like forms emerge. The form is carefully balanced atop a pyramid, connecting the terrestrial and the celestial, as though the object had just descended and landed from afar. The broad-winged configurations suggest an uneven and significant weigh distribution, giving the impression of levitation as the object balances on the pyramid. The way in which the work seems to defy gravity is suggestive of the extra-terrestrial and other-worldly.

McClelland acknowledges the Bunurong / Boon Wurrung people of the South-Eastern Kulin Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the lands and waters on which we are placed.

We are a safe, welcoming space for all people.

As a not-for-profit organisation, McClelland relies largely on the support of visitors through entry fees and donations to help conserve the collection, curate exhibitions and educational programs, and care for the beautiful sculpture park and bushland setting for all to enjoy.
