Artist Talk - Christopher Pyett
Saturday 22 August, 2pm – 3pm
The walls of the Elisabeth Murdoch Gallery come alive in this special artist talk with celebrated Australian painter Christopher Pyett, whose recent works pulse with colour, movement, and decades of refined insight.
Featuring paintings made within the past five years, this exhibition highlights Pyett’s remarkable sensitivity to the rhythm and character of colour, underpinned by an extraordinary command of colour theory. His abstract compositions move between precision and spontaneity, inviting viewers into a vibrant, ever-shifting visual language.
Now in his eighties, with a career spanning more than sixty years, Pyett continues to paint daily from his Pearcedale studio. His practice is both disciplined and meditative, driven by a lifelong commitment to enquiry, experimentation, and the possibilities of abstraction.
In this talk, Pyett will reflect on the evolution of his practice, the enduring role of colour in his work, and the processes that sustain his creative vitality. This exuberant body of new paintings stands as a testament to an inspiring exploration of energy, perception, and the enduring power of paint.
