Join us to support the Music Residency Program
Friday 28 August 3pm-5pm
Experience a rare performance by two of Australia’s most distinctive musicians, Genevieve Lacey (recorders) and Marshall McGuire (harp), set within the extraordinary natural and sculptural landscape of McClelland Sculpture Park + Gallery.
Across more than two decades of collaboration, Lacey and McGuire have performed together around the world, from prestigious concert halls and festivals in Moscow, Paris and London, to shearing sheds, football ovals and remote properties across Australia. Their celebrated 2021 album Bower marked this enduring partnership, winning the ARIA Award for Best Classical Recording.
This performance invites you into these artists’ latest creation, a work in progress that’s been taking shape during their time in residence at McClelland. Inspired by their long-held love of folk tunes collected by the 18th-century, London publisher, John Playford, they’ve used these musical markers of significant moments in human lives, gorgeous melodies in honour of births, weddings, love songs and laments, to trace longer frames of time, through sound both old and newly composed.
Joined by brilliant, imaginative colleagues, Erkki Veltheim (violin & electronics) and Helen Svoboda (double bass & voice), the artists give us an early glimpse of what they’ve been discovering during their time in residence at McClelland. Indulge in sublime music, great company, canapés and fine wines, all in support of McClelland’s commitment to fostering exceptional Australian musical talent through its Music Residency Program.
Light refreshments to be provided.
