Christopher Pyett: Years of Colour

Saturday 27 June – Sunday 11 October 2026

The walls of the Elisabeth Murdoch Gallery will spring to life with a series of recent works by celebrated Australian painter Christopher Pyett. All made within the past five years, these abstract paintings represent Pyett’s sensitivity to the rhythm and character of colour, and his unparalleled knowledge of colour theory.

At 82, with an exhibition history spanning more than six decades behind him, Pyett paints in his Pearcedale studio every day. His practice is disciplined and meditative, while driven by enquiry and experimentation. This is an exuberant collection of new works by one Australia’s most senior and accomplished abstract painters.
