Change of Chair at McClelland

McClelland announces the Chair of the Board of Trustees and Directors, Mr Stephen Charles AO QC, will step down from the role of Chair and remain on McClelland’s Board to continue to oversee the organisation’s strong governance agenda. Mr Charles was appointed a Trustee & Director in 2017.

The Hon Simon Crean will succeed Mr Charles as the new Chair, having joined the Board in May 2021.

Director of McClelland, Ms Lisa Byrne, thanked Mr Charles for his distinguished service as Chair, and looked forward to his continuing contribution on the Board.

“Stephen Charles has led the Board with distinction during a period of high achievement for McClelland. We are delighted he will play an ongoing role in helping McClelland deliver on its purpose and continue his strong governance and leadership agenda for the organisation into the future. It has been a notable highlight to work with such a distinguished contributor to Australian society in many ways since my appointment in 2018, and I look forward to this continuing.

“As the new Chair, the Hon Simon Crean brings to the position his broad range of experience in industry, politics and of course most notably the Arts, as the former Federal Minister of the Arts and the creator of the ambitious Creative Nation policy for Australia. I look forward to working with Simon to advance McClelland for the community it serves, in the outer southeast of Melbourne, alongside contributing significantly to the promotion and celebration of Australia’s sculptural legacy and its place in the expanded field of spatial practice, the landscape and toward an environmentally responsible cultural asset of the future,” Ms Byrne said.

McClelland acknowledges the Bunurong / Boon Wurrung people of the South-Eastern Kulin Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the lands and waters on which we are placed.

We are a safe, welcoming space for all people.
