Board of Trustees

Matt Healy LLB/BA, MAICD, Chair

Matt has over 25 years of experience in technology, telecommunications, regulation and law. Currently a Non-Executive Director of Australian Domain Names Limited and Board Member of The Macfarlane Fund, Matt was previously an executive at Macquarie Telecom Group and has held leadership roles at the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission, United Energy, and in the airline sector. Matt has had a long-standing interest in the creative arts and served as a founding board member of Westspace.

John Young Zerunge AM

John (Young Zerunge) is a Hong Kong born, Australian artist. Initially lecturing at the University of Sydney, he then worked professionally in his art practice internationally. John has represented Australia in many exhibitions, including at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, as well as in regional Northeast and South East Asian museums tours.

He has had two solo survey exhibitions, the first at the TarraWarra Museum of Art and the second at the Australian National University (ANU), Canberra. There are several monographs published on his works. John has devoted a large part of his four-decade career towards regional development in the Asia-Pacific. He was the Founding President and a board member of the 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art, Sydney, a national organisation dedicated to the promotion of Asian philanthropy, contemporary Asian-Australian visual culture, multiculturalism, as well as the nurturing of artists and curators in this sector. He also served on the Foundation Board of the new National Art School in Sydney as well as the Academic Advisory Board of the Victorian College of the Arts.

He has delivered numerous papers in national conferences both within the visual arts and the wider context of multicultural advocacy; including at the Australian chapter of Davos, and at the European Centre at the ANU. In 2020 John was recognised as a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to the visual arts, and as a role model.

Shireen Jahan - Treasurer

Shireen is a results-driven finance executive with a passion for breaking down complexities with proven commercial experience working with Iconic Retail Businesses, Government and Not for Profit Organizations across 16 years in Executive Financial Management, Technological and Operational Leadership roles. A Transformation and Change Leader who has successfully managed end to end finance shared services & IT functions and led diverse multi-cultural teams, with demonstrated results in adapting to the business challenges with the capacity to influence and deliver sustainable solutions across all levels.

Shireen is currently the Chief Financial Officer for SMCT, which is a not-for-profit organization and a self-funding government agency (Department of Health)

Dr Rory Hyde

Dr Rory Hyde is Associate Professor in Architecture, Curatorial Design and Practice at the University of Melbourne. From 2013 to 2020 he was the Curator of Contemporary Architecture and Urbanism at the V&A Museum, where he co-curated the major exhibitions All of This Belongs to You and The Future Starts Here. Hyde is a Design Advocate for the Mayor of London, and was recently appointed to the City of Melbourne’s Design Review Panel.

His writing on design and architecture has been featured in The Economist, The Guardian, Harvard Design Magazine, Domus, Icon, and Architecture Australia. His books Future Practice (2012) and Architects After Architecture (2020), were both awarded the Australian Institute of Architects prize for architecture in the media.

Hyde studied architecture at RMIT University, where he also completed his PhD.

Dr Gillian Kay

Gillian has extensive experience over 25 years in executive roles across public sectors in Australia, including corporate and business planning, organisational development, human resource management, governance, policy development, arts and culture, community planning and strengthening, community safety and emergency management, town planning, economic development, asset management and a variety of health roles.

A career focus has been establishing robust policy platforms and successfully implementing major change initiatives for organisational and community wellbeing outcomes.
Her early career encompassed public service in defence, health, welfare, justice, transport and infrastructure portfolios of Government.

Gillian is also an experienced board member having served on a range of boards; most recently as the chairperson of the Peninsula Campus Advisory Consultative Council, the Local Learning Network and Bayley House. Her work with Frankston City Council’s Arts Advisory Committee helped expand public art across the city to reinvigorate Frankston’s reputation as an arts destination.
Gillian has a Masters of Business Administration and holds a Doctorate.

Ian Davis OAM

Ian is an experienced public company Director and high level strategic advisor to businesses, corporations and high net-worth family groups across Asia, in Australia, and internationally. He has sat on public company boards for over 20 years, both in the capacity as Non-Executive Chairman and Non-Executive Director.

As Head of Private Wealth for Minter Ellison, Ian draws upon his extensive involvement with Asian commercial enterprises, especially in China and Japan, as well as Australian corporates and investors formulating business strategies for Asia.

Ian deals widely in the negotiation and structuring of corporate and tax aspects of multinational and Australian joint ventures, particularly mergers, acquisitions, takeovers, reconstructions, and capital raisings.

Professor Michael-Shawn Fletcher

Professor Michael-Shawn Fletcher is Director of Research Capability at the Indigenous Knowledge Institute and the Associate Dean in the Faculty of Science at the University of Melbourne.

As a descendant of the Wiradjuri and a geographer, Dr Fletcher is interested in the long-term human/environment interactions. His research group focusses on understanding how landscapes evolve through time using microfossils stored in sediments.

Dr Fletcher brings to McClelland a high level of expertise in, and understanding of, some of the major issues facing mainstream cultural organisations in Australia today.

Lyn Williams AM

Lyn Williams early career was as a primary school teacher from 1956-1962. Since 1982 she has managed the Estate of Fred Williams, organizing exhibitions of his work in Australia and internationally, in both commercial and public galleries. Concurrently she is Executive Director of Maraquita Pty Ltd, a family company.

Government Board appointments have been to: Council of Trustees, NGV 1983-1994, Chair of the Margaret Stewart Foundation, (Honorary Life member 1995 and Emeritus Trustee in 2004); Board and Chairman of ACCA 1984 to 1990; Art Centre Trust Board 1993-4. Council Member of the NGA 1997-2004. (First Honorary Life Member 1982).
