Lynne Bechervaise

Lynne Bechervaise is a Melbourne-born multidisciplinary artist whose work reflects a deep connection to the natural and spiritual worlds. She studied Illustration and Design at Swinburne University before undertaking intensive training at Monash University and Adelaide Central School of Art.

Working across painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture and printmaking, her practice is shaped by lived experiences, including roles in education, health, counselling, and expressive therapies.

Influenced by studies in dream and symbol work and extensive travels across Australia and the Americas, her art engages deeply with both personal and cultural narratives.

Story Boats & Beyond

Boats have long symbolised life’s journeys and the soul’s passage between worlds. My Story Boat series emerged from a period of personal transformation inspired by travels with indigenous communities across Alaska, America, Australia, and Tibet. These experiences deeply shaped my creative path. The boats began as empty vessels holding space for unseen passengers, gradually revealing figures that represent family, memory, community, and our connection to land, water, and sky. Birds, fish, whales, and ceremonial figures later appeared, symbolising transformation and guidance.

McClelland acknowledges the Bunurong / Boon Wurrung people of the South-Eastern Kulin Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the lands and waters on which we are placed.

We are a safe, welcoming space for all people.
